The University Grants Commission and the Government of Assam. Also, various activities of the Central and State Governments deliver various grants and support for Research and other Theoretical activities. The University is in its 58th year of existence and is the oldest, the largest, and the best seat of higher education in the complete North Eastern Area of India. The Ph.D. program of Gauhati University and all other Ph.D. related activities are governed by the Ph.D. Regulations (2016) of Gauhati University. It incorporates the UGC’s latest “Minimum Standards and Procedures for the Award of the Degree of Ph.D.”.

Gauhati University Admission 2023 Process

The admission procedure is a paperless one and is completely online. Admission to all PG Program will be done via the Entrance Test to be conducted in the 1st week of July. Please refer to the university website to know details about eligibility criteria and Date & Time of the PG Course.  For admission in the University students need to know about the admission and eligibility criteria. Admission is based on the entrance test, so students who want to get admission in they need to qualify the entrance test with good marks.

Gauhati University has introduced CBCS in its post-graduate programmes from the 2016-17 session. The new system is expected to
accelerate the teaching-learning process and enable vertical and horizontal mobility in learning.
Characteristics of CBCS
• Allows flexibility in curriculum design
• Enables choice of courses from another discipline that is of interest to the student
• Provides for additional credits beyond the compulsory ones for interested students
• Allows students to gain additional skills through Value Added Course
• Creates awareness about interdisciplinary perspectives during the Master’s Programme
• Lays a sound foundation for future interdisciplinary Ph.D. research

Nomenclature and Nature of Courses
All post graduate programmes under CBCS will have the following components:
Core Courses: These are compulsory subject-specific courses in all semesters for all students registered for a particular post
graduate programme.
Elective Courses: These are a pool of intra-departmental courses within the discipline for students of the home department to
acquire specialized or advanced knowledge or skills in an area supportive to the main discipline.

Open Courses: These are courses offered by a department that may be taken by students of other disciplines to give them an
exposure to a subject, or to develop their proficiency/ skill in that discipline or domain. Unless specially indicated, Open
Courses will be offered only in the 3rd & 4th semesters.
Value Added Courses: These are optional non-graded courses offered by a department to students of their own discipline or to
students of other disciplines to develop their skills in that discipline or domain. VACs are envisaged to complement and
supplement the knowledge acquired in the core, elective and open courses
Skill Based Activities: SBA are offered to students as an alternative to Value Added Courses which are a collection of
activities/classes/demonstration that have a very high skill component.

Gauhati University B.Tech Admission 2023

For B.Tech Courses: Admission to B.Tech program is done the basis of Assam Common Entrance Examination test and only qualified students are eligible to take admission in this course.

Guwahati University Admission M.Tech Admission 2023

For M.Tech Course: GATE qualify student is eligible to take admission in M.Tech course. For admission, students must have eligible. After the entrance test, University will be called to students for the counseling round.

The University conducted the Gauhati University Research Entrance Test to offers admission in PhD & M.Phil Courses.

The selection process of admission in Gauhati University:

For the admission entrance test will be held for the Postgraduate programs. The admission selection is based on the entrance test, so students required to qualify the entrance test with good marks.

After completing the application process, students will be able to download the admit card. Admit card is an important document for the entrance test.

How to download the admit card of Gauhati University?

  • Student can download the admit card from the university official website.
  • Fill the application number & password.
  • Then click on the admit card download link, and download it.
  • Take the printout for the further use, without admit card no one students will be allowed to enter the examination hall.
